SERVICE
As one of Omega Phi Alpha's three cardinal principles, service is the common thread that motivates and deeply inspires all Omega Phi Alpha members. Rather than focusing on a single form of philanthropy, our sorority directs its efforts toward performing chapter-wide and individual service projects that benefit our main six service pillars. Each of OPhiA's main six areas of service (listed below) corresponds to the direct beneficiaries of the projects. Each collegiate chapter must plan at least six projects per semester, one project for each of the six areas. Over the years, our sisters have collectively contributed thousands of volunteer hours and donations to charitable organizations. In the 2017-18 academic year, the Omega chapter logged more than 2534 service hours and raised $25,346 for charity.

Permanent Project: Mental Health
OPhiA's national Permanent Project is focused on Mental Health to honor our former National President, Susan Terzian. We are dedicated to raising mental health awareness and destigmatizing conversations surrounding mental health.
President's Project: Protecting Human Rights
Each year, OPhiA's National President chooses a project for all chapters to focus on at our annual National Convention. For the 2022-2023 school year, the OPhiA National President chose the "Protecting Human Rights" project to address global human rights violations and protect underserved communities.
University Community
The Omega Chapter helps make the Rutgers University-New Brunswick campus a better place. We support the university by giving back through volunteer efforts that benefit our peers, educators, and other members of Rutgers faculty.
Community-at-Large
Our Community-at-Large projects involve sisters sharing their time and talents with various non-profit organizations local to the Rutgers area. We advocate for social causes and promote the well-being of the greater New Brunswick community.
Members of the Sorority
We serve ourselves and our sisters with our Members of the Sorority projects. We continue to uplift and support our sisters, actives, and alumnae by serving them through projects such as Paper Bag Workshops, Sister Kindness Pals Week, and the Active/Alumni Book Club.
Nations of the World
Our sisters perform international service to those outside the United States through our Nations of the World projects. Over the years, we have raised thousands of dollars to support global non-profit organizations such as the Malala Fund and Save The Children. In 2022, our chapter received an Area of Service Award at the OPhiA National Convention for our "Ukraine Awareness" project.
